A Core for Diversity
This design for common ground is to further the local integration of migrants in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, a multicultural municipality in the Brussels-Capital Region. The project explores how the built environment can advance integration and increase social interaction. The design process began with a study into the conditions on site, which led to the development of a programme that genuinely meets the needs of the residents. The architectural design focusesĀ on the potential of public space to foster cultural integration and the interaction
between people, an important facet being their ability to express their identity as individuals. The project constructs a new core for a city block, a place where its residents can get to know each other better and meet their new neighbours.
