The Boundaries of a Roof

This folly is designed with a deconstructivist motive. The result is an edifice that undermines the roof as an architectural element to reveal that it is built on unstable grounds. The folly is all about hiding and revealing its structure. The mutated structural grid, different orientations of planes and conflicting materials create a playful composition of light and shadow. The black staircase has a clear direction without a visible ending, creating a sense of curiosity to explore the folly. A tension between the interior and exterior of the folly exists. The outdoor appearance is brutal and machine-like with the metal mesh, concrete base and giant black pin. The soft wooden interior reveals itself on the sides of the roof plane.
