Urban designers today face a complex set of global challenges that demand innovative thinking, long-term planning and immediate action. Climate change urges cities to adapt to both extreme and slow-onset weather events while reducing carbon emissions. At the same time, the housing crisis puts pressure to create affordable, high-quality, and inclusive living spaces that can accommodate rapidly growing populations. In this Anthropocene era — defined by unprecedented human impact on the planet- we can also add urbanisation, resource depletion, and biodiversity loss, among other global challenges. The students’ task is to develop a vision of what our urban future should look like and test it on a case study.
